Good News

"ID Cards to be delayed until later this decade". Good news indeed, but it worries me that the government wants to get some of the legislation in now to prepare.
<--break-->
ID cards are evil, because:

- They penalise the innocent - if you're not a terrorist/illegal immigrant, why do you need a card?
- They are proven to be ineffective against crime - If you burgle someone's house, you're not going to leave your card behind
- They infringe your civil liberties - the tieing together of disparate information means that bodies that have no right to see personal information get all they want

The government needs to be honest about this (as if any government ever could be honest). They need to explain how terrorists are suddenly going to be disrupted by this idea. They also need to explain how crime will be reduced. Most of all, they need to explain how all this happens without an Orwellian 'Big Brother' state bearing down on our freedom.
