Contact Verisign / Network Solutions

Verisign have added "wildcard DNS entries" to .com and .net domains. That means if you mis-type any .com or .net domain, you'll be redirected to a Verisign machine. With a web browser, this will be a web page with Verisign advertising. In other clients, your attempt will be rejected. Verisign seem to suggest that domain related issues should be handed to Network Solutions, who would like to hear your views via their contacts. Verisign would like you to call them on (+1) 650-961-7500.

Either way, DO NOT buy your site's SSL certificate (or anything else) from Verisign (try Thwate?).

Just in case you'd like to contact Verisign or Network Sollutions another way, here are some ideas. I'll just bet those Verisign and Network Solutions people would just love to hear from you, and I expect they'd love to get some nice things in the mail too.

(I tried calling +1 703-742-0914, but got through to a monkey who couldn't help me - might be different with a different monkey)

You might like to run this on a machine at your site: query_verisign.pl (2k file) (it's a script that calls a
random URL every few minutes - in other words, it calls the Verisign server every few minutes).

From jea6 at slashdot.org:

You may want to let Scott Hollenbeck (shollenbeck@verisign.com [mailto]) and Matt Larson (mlarson@verisign.com [mailto]) from VeriSign's Naming and Directory Services know what you think of their Best Practices [verisign.com].

And while you are at it, you may consider a friendly note for W.G. Champion Mitchell (wmitchell@verisign.com) [mailto], President, NetSol and Stratton Sclavos (ssclavos@verisign.com) [mailto], Chairman and CEO, VeriSign.
