Rant: Initial City Link (London South branch)

I was supposed to get a parcel delivered on saturday morning. I'd specifically arranged the delivery at that time, as it's about the only time in the next week or two I can be around at home. Initial City Link let me down big style.

All said and done, I'm not sure any courier company is really at it's best on a saturday (do you know different?). However, these cowboys were really pretty useless. Avoid them if you can...

So there I am, waiting at home on saturday morning. At 9.40, I notice a card has been posted through my door saying "we tried to deliver, but you were out". It was left by "Dave" at 9.20. So, I call the number and tell them that he didn't ring the doorbell, and to get him back here. They tell me that he can't come back. I then argue a bit, so the call agent passes me on to her supervisor.

I speak to this guy, and tell him that Dave didn't ring the bell. He tells me that Dave must have rung the bell, because Dave wouldn't just write out the card, because that takes longer than delivering the parcel. Essentially, I got told that I must be a bit of an idiot for not hearing the doorbell. I also get told that this delivery company can't possibly deliver this parcel, except during the week. I explain that's not convenient, which is why I had specifically arranged a saturday delivery. The supervisor was unaccommodating, unsympathetic, and had no idea of customer serivce and customer focus.

Anyway, it transpires that the inept driver, Dave, had actually been to the wrong house. My neighbour had come home to find the card, realised it was for me, and dropped it around. I call Inital back again, whereupon they contact the driver once more, and ask him what he did. Then, I get told that he's on his way back to the depot, so they'll get someone to drop it off on their way home. They took my phone number, the idea being that they'd call to confirm. They didn't call, they didn't deliver.

So, I'm now left without my parcel, and without any convenient time to get the delivery. I figure I'm going to call Inital and get them to do an 8am delivery during the week. They'd better do it, or else there'll be hell to pay... (fortunately, I'm in a good position, because the sender wants to keep me on side because I'm potentially useful to them, so I can probably get some leverage via them).

how about this, yesterday the midlands regeion delivered 99.23% of parcels on time. cant help the rest that wasn't home/didnt answer and there would be an odd few that was mis sorted which is a human error, people can make mistakes.

we love emma and julie and

we love emma and julie and nick @ city link theyre great but watch out for andy he is officialy the grumpiest little mind game making sun of a gun in the uk

i hate management

just been at work today no heating no drinks just a load of x crap van driving idiots dishin out orders to drivers who cant possibly manage the ammount of the work there already getting, i feel for them, hard working decent guys.
The management, some jumped up goat and some drunk cow are more interested in brown nosing and keeping costs down than the well being of there lads,(i dont care how fast you have to drive just make sure you deliver them parcels).

city-link= shit management
city-link= hard working van drivers
city-link= shit.

Please take me back UPS

Please take me back UPS

Reality

I have read almost all of the above comments, and I am not surprised to see a common thread with all of them. As stated somewhere in this rant CL deliver well in excess of 150000 cartons with a success rate of over 98.7% which is above industry standards. Our B-B consignments hit a higher succes rate, but it is our B-C consignments that have a negative effect on our overall strike rate. I can assure all commentees that we all take pride in being able to offer such a high standard in on time delivery, I have investigated failed deliveries on many occasions and although I have found in some cases that CL personel are to blame for the service failure I have to add that in the main the highest reasons for non delivery is wrong address or insufficient details provided. As someone has already stated we can not continue to redeliver to addresses when no one is home, the industry operates on very tight margins (7-8% profit margin) so we would quickly find ourselves in trouble if every delivery was re-attempted without attracting an additional charge. Would any of the commentees be willing to pay for alternative delivery days?

thats why you get drivers to

thats why you get drivers to phone in consignees names rather than use their scanner when time is an issue , ie on a 10.30 delivery , or when a driver tells his traffic controller that of the 10, 12 noon deliveries he has , 5 will be late. Not using the scanner will in effect hide the time he delivered, and the consignee is usually so pleased to receive their 12 noon delivery that they dont realise it's nearer 1pm. So 98.9% is acheivable when stunts like this are being pulled. If all the deliveries that were done and not scanned using the handheld drivers scanner were checked, how many do you think would be fraudulent. I imagine certainly more than 5%. So mr regional manager, do you have the guts to give the true figure of timed and accepted deliveries as per your own standard operating procedures, or do you know that deep in your heart you will soon be found out, and the quicker the better for everyones sakes.
I just hope Initial realise this, cos when you end up on your own without their financial backing to keep on picking you up, i give you 12 months.
See you at the jobcentre.

c/l rubish

company load of crap

Owner/drivers treated appallingly

I was an owner driver for Shittylink for just ower 1.5yrs paid my 2.5 grand to get my nice shiny new transit jumbo £1700 a yr insurance plus 400 quid for 30K of git insurance only to loose a parcel and the F**king contract was terminated, trying to take the bstards to court at the moment for racial shit as loads of parcels go missing but do all drivers get kicked out, F**k do they, double standards and shitty IT system is the problems most of ya dont get your parcels on time.
Stay employed at least there is a disciplinary procedure

City Link are pretty aweful

Ordered a Dyson via Amazon as it was a great deal and more convenient than try to lug one back from Argos etc! I am a Prime customer so get free next day delivery - but of course on this occassion City link were involved so yet again (its been the case EVERY time I have these jokers involved) it has not turned up on the day promised. Apparently the driver turned up, saw the building gates were locked and drove off! Did he call my contact number? NO, did he check at the porters lodge? NO, did he post a delvery note? NO

Amazingly poor customer service, and I am afraid to say I have always had problems when things are delivered using City Link. By start contrast on the same day today UPS delivered my new IPOD on time, no problems and at 10am. So the lesson is always try to go with UPS or FEDEX for that matter :)

City link

Had the same probs with City Link and another parcel force in the industry but likewise find FedEx & UPS very good.

re regional manager

Ok so we deliver 98.5 % on time..........rubbish we have loads of rubbish subbies at our depot and sometimes they are delivering at 7pm at night!! All you have done is move the goal posts so that these late dels no longer show up as fails! End of the day if a customer pays for the pre 1730 del thats when it should be delivered by. If you enforced pre 1730, trust me your 98.5% would be worth dick! And its also nice to see that you have read the comments on here about service and decided to ignore all the drivers both employed and self employed who are telling you what an awful company this is to work for. As you would say though....if you dont like it theres the door! What you have failed to realise is that with a company with no actual assets as such i.e vans, stock, property etc, the biggest asset you do have is the people you have working for you and you have failed on every level to make them happy in their job and so have created a workforce which is unmotivated and looking to leave at every oppotunity. You cannot attract the best drivers and all your best drivers are being snapped up by Parcelforce and UPS! Admitedly you have saved and stablized the business but you will not be able to drive the business forward without a decent workforce..... if the levels of parcels return to what they were like 3 years ago there is no way in hell that the current crop you have working here now can handle it, also as mail and parcel volumes increase across the industry more firms will be looking for drivers and put quite simply after what has gone on here.......WHO WOULD WANT TO WORK FOR YOU!.

Citylink

I used to be an ex-employee(night-shift warehouse) at the new Heathrow Prologis Depot, I was dismissed un-fairly over the Christmas period, case still pending.
I was dismissed from the job 1.00 am in the morning after having a disciplinary hearing with someone at head office.
Why 1.00 am in the morning ?, I had to walk back home which is 2 miles away with no buses running at that time.
Any disciplinary hearings should take place after the shift is over
( 8.00am ).
This company overloads their full-time staff with to much work by using less staff as possible( their rather employ temp staff instead which they use occasionally during the run up to Christmas )

You dont get any new uniform( even after repeated requests ), you basically have to buy your own gloves.

They use a(Divide/Conquer) technique amongst the staff, including drivers by having staff on different contract and pay-rates.
(eg:- Two people doing the SAME job, one person being paid £10 an hour, and another paid £5.90,so
Staff from different franchises,( Heston,Slough,Target,Inter-branch )all working in the same building, all doing the same job but on different money.
Most of the staff on the Heston contract(£5.90) have all decided to leave City-Link as the company has refused to put everyone on the same rate.

Please do YOURSELF a favour

Please do YOURSELF a favour and read a little about the culture and values of a good logistics firm like UPS then read and compare Citylink. The evidence is plain to see.

City Link Parcel - Not been to my house, but delivery attempted?

I have just bought a camera in excess of £200+.

I paid 8.99 for the express delivery, so that I would get 'Guarenteed delivery by 1PM, on April 17 (saturday).

I have had no parcel delivered today.

However, on my order tracking it says delivery was attempted and a card was left. There was no delivery as I was home, and further more there is definetely no card been left in my house.

I have no idea whats going on here now and slightly worried whos house my camera is going to go too, as ive checked with my immediate neighbours and had no luck.

I can't ring them as phones arent open on weekends (only upto lunch on sat), and supposedly the parcel will be re-delivered on monday. Im just not sure who's house its going to go too on monday, so not sure what to do.

Never using citylink again. Never had any problems like this with outher couriers.

If anyone has had similar problem please let me know.

Thanks,
Jamie.

City Link Parcel - Not been to my house, but delivery attempted

Jamie,

I wouldn't worry too much about where your goods are. More than likely it's just back in the depot.
The trouble is that most depots instruct the drivers to be back in the depot for Mid-day on Saturday.
Unfortunately it is unofficial policy for unattempted deliveries to be entered as carded, so that the company is not fined by the consigning company. This practice also keeps the performance figures artificially high, thus making sure the top men receive their bonus.

I know it's galling not to receive the service you have paid for.
Unfortunately I'm sure there are many customers who have suffered the service you have been subjected to.

I constantly wish that i could sit across the table from the MD of City Link and voice my frustrations regarding the direction City Link is taking into the future, but it will never happen.

Success is measured by the share prices on the market, not unfortunately by real world service levels

ha ha did anyone read the Q1

ha ha did anyone read the Q1 report from rentokil? in the part under city link it states that losses in Q1 trading were impacted by high sub contractor costs and they are now reviewing employed driver levels!!!! Also the ceo has said they now have to re employ drivers to combat this and to improve customer service!!! We have only been saying this for the past 2 years............... bye bye self employed.

Hello All, Sorry to say that

Hello All,

Sorry to say that City Link will never go back to the employed driver business model. I don't see any thing in that report - that suggests that the owner/driver culture will be jettisoned.

When all said and done having people buy their own van ,insurance etc is saving City Link money - in the long run.

In many reports I've read the management boast how they have cut the vehicle fleet dramatically. The reality is that they mean vans that they are actually leasing.

The sub-contractors the report mentions will be the real"self employed " drivers with the multi coloured vans that turn up over Christmas. The lads who will take work from different companies week in week out, and cover for drivers off sick.

The proposed rise in NI contributions can only hasten the momentum towards a company running using supposedly self employed drivers. The logic for the parent company is plain to see in respects of money saved in reduction of running costs.
The contract that a prospective owner-driver will sign - should I imagine be very carefully worded so as to skirt around any potential issues that would lead to any investigations in respect of what is nothing more than an elaborate exercise in tax avoidance by the major players in this industry.

Unfortunately the goverment and HMRC don't seem to want to tighten up the regulations that would see them recouping a tidy sum back into their coffers.
The result of goverment inaction on this will only see more PAYE drivers adding to the increasing levels of unemployment within our once great nation.

"The trouble is that most

"The trouble is that most depots instruct the drivers to be back in the depot for Mid-day on Saturday.
Unfortunately it is unofficial policy for unattempted deliveries to be entered as carded, so that the company is not fined by the consigning company"

Not at our depot mate. If that happened here then somebody would be sacked. If we go out with more drops than we can handle on a Saturday then we get paid extra. Also, if i go out with say....25 drops on a Saturday only a small percentage of them are times, the rest are Saturday by 1730 Amazon packages.

"Q1 trading were impacted by high sub contractor costs and they are now reviewing employed driver levels!!!! Also the ceo has said they now have to re employ drivers to combat this and to improve customer service!!!"

I have heard rumours to this effect from high up in the CL management. I've read that when CL bought Target they were looking for a 60/40 split, 60% employed 40% self employed but now apparently they're looking to up the employed driver levels. I saw an internal memo at head office some weeks ago that suggested that owner drivers who run one or more of their own drivers will be told that they can no longer do this. The drivers will be given the option either to go on their own as a self employed driver or be employed by the company. Whether this ever happens or not is anybodys guess.

i quote Unfortunately it

i quote Unfortunately it is unofficial policy for unattempted deliveries to be entered as carded, so that the company is not fined by the consigning company". This always happens on a Saturday. Believe it or not i was instructed by my Operations manager to do just this one week.
Then the bastards sacked me for fraud.
I was that shocked i never put up a defence, i just thought to myself, 'you know what im glad to be out of such a self serving buch of idiots.
The company song always has been and always will be ' THE SELF PRESEVATION SOCIETY '.
From a fool who once thought Citylink were an honourable company, what a joke, if it was'ent so sad it would be hilarious. Of course you only have my word for this. PLUS 5 STATEMENTS FROM MEMBERS OF STAFF WHO BACKED UP MY CLAIM.
I was going to take them to a tribunal , but i thought they will only lie and cheat their way out of this.
This is the calibre of the company you want to spend money with. Any decent and honourable person reading this , please remember that this company who does not care about it's staff , certainly does'nt care about its customers.
JUST IT'S BANK BALANCE.

what a load of bollocks

what a load of bollocks cl will all be subbie or self employed sooner than you think so cut the shit!!!!!

subbies

Yeah these subbies are breeding they must be using turkey basters.

"what a load of bollocks cl

"what a load of bollocks cl will all be subbie or self employed sooner than you think"

And you know this how?

Because you're regularly at head office and travel round the depots like i do?

I admit that when you go to and integrated depot the sight of all the subbie vans in their various states of decay is not inspiring. Nor is the Target silver or or partially liveried self employed vans who've not adhered to the rules to change over. It's like a multi-coloured swap shop at times.

As for self employed and subbies getting more than a City Link employed driver well then yeah of course they do. But they have their fuel, tax, income tax, NI and various other things to payt from that so at the end of the day their bottom line must be around the same as an employed driver.

THE COW IS NEVER WRONG

The cow has never been to head office and gathers her info whilst grassing

I should have had a delivery

I should have had a delivery from Citylink a week ago in Yorkshire, unfortunatly a family emergency meant I had to go down south called citylink to see what my options were, advised will attempt delivery twice then it will return to the depot where I can arrange to collect it! Asked if it could be left with the neighbours (they are in the process of packing up the house so can arrange a friend to then pick it up from them before they move and pop it in the house for me) No can do, not allowed to leave it with a neighbour. Asked if I can arrange a different delivery address...only if the request comes from the sender...fair enough, paid extra, sorted. Tracked consignment and sure enough delivery instructions have been changed and a new job number allocated......
Next day under the same consignment number, successfully delivered...to my bloody neighbours at the first address who have now moved along with my parcel!

What happened to not allowed to leave it with neighbours? Clearly there is a reason for that rule........

Those drivers must get off on the power they obviously have to override the terms and conditions of delivery!

as a driver in ICL my message

as a driver in ICL my message to all the haters is try to do our job of delivering 100 cons per day with timed dels. see if you can do it any better because im damn sure you can't. Maybe staying in to recieve your parcel than going to coffee shops or other needless things might just help us

Or work, you arrogant prick!!

Or work, you arrogant prick!! Where do you think you are at exactly the same time?
Many of us have no choice to use citylink, I for one would much rather my sender had used royal mail, I'd have just gone the next day to the local depot and collected it pre 7am. Our local city link depot is 50miles away, and when I changed to collection, the dumb bastards loaded it onto a wagon anyways!

You paint a fantastic picture of the type of prick we expect to have to deal with, you try doing my job you dumb twit, engineering distributor vapour flow in vertical colums on petro-chemical sites, no, you can't??

All you do is drive a van, as you left school with jack-shit, shut up and do your job!!

Re: Or work you arrogant prick!!

I actually did engineer distributor vapour flow in vertical columns on petro-chemical sites but I found it rather mundane and quite a repetitive job and also dare I say it a slightly demeaning way to make a living, so I decided a change of occupation was in order so I became a van driver which I found much more cerebral and enlightening than engineering distributor vapour flow in ruddy vertical columns on bloody petro-chemical sites.

You sir are a pompous crass twat, how dare you presume to know what qualifications this man left school with, or how low you may think his intelligence to be. The job is a hard and demanding one, what with the tight time constraints, traffic and sheer volume of packages to be delivered, oh, and yes having to deal with insufferable cocks like yourself.

By the way, didn't they teach you how to spell column at your engineering poly? Or how to use a spell check? One would have though a man that spends his entire working life -if that's what he does- around vertical columns it wouldn't be to much to expect him to be able to spell column, would it.

Good day to you sir.

city link to soon be all self employed

TOTAL RUBBISH .....now employing 4 new drivers at our depot and i here more coming back at other depots i heard at wimbledon and beckenham. And they have got rid of some of the self employed here to do it. I collared a manager and he said that city link have admitted they got it wrong because they saved a little bit of cost but havent expanded the business cause the subbies arent loyal to the company so dont bother trying to get new business or be bothered about anything just as long as they get paid!!!!!!! SO i guess no one is safe are they my subbie friends!!

Having had the privelage of

Having had the privelage of working at this funny farm for the past five years, I have watched as it gets deeper and deeper into the biggest, deepest pile of city link management and director SHIT!! I have ever seen!
'cut this, cut that' 'save this, save that'. Bunch of over paid fuck ups!! They have ruined what was a good company to work for. But that's ok because they got paid a shitload of money to do it.
And now it's the working class of the company that will suffer (drivers, warehouse, office staff) at the hand of the fat cats! Half the mangement at depot level have no management skills to run a depot.
Oh fuck it!! I can't be fucked to have this rant. I'm not going to put anything that hasn't already been put on here.
We work for a bunch of cowboys who couldn't give a fuck about anything but lining there own pockets. I'll just sit tight until this rusty out dated ship sinks. But I won't be fucking drowning. I'll find another boat without pirates in charge!

City Link

I am a a subbie who works for City Link. In my experience they are a disorganised bunch of cowboys who I would personally choose not to use to deliver my parcel!

None of the drivers (employed and self employed) are happy, the management are a shower of shite and the whole atmosphere in the depot ( i won't say which depot) is very negative.

I am looking to leave the company ASAP because of the reasons stated above.

Look after your employees City Link! WE are you bread and butter - not your collections as you keep telling us!

Load of Arse

City link Cardiff is the

City link Cardiff is the worst carriers by far.
We are a business in Cardiff and have every now and again the unfortunate experience of city link trying to deliver to us.
We have told suppliers to stop using them as the parcels never arrive when they should.
We have today been on the phone for 30 minutes and we are still 9th in line it is now 5.45pm and our parcel has not arrived again but trying to find out why we have not received it is an impossible task.
As it is Friday we will now not get the parcel until Monday if we are lucky.
Please could any business consider using city link to consider the people on this blog and go elsewhere and use a reputable company, As you can clearly see that the staff that work for city link are at best very rude, If my staff where to post comments on forums or blogs arguing with customers they would quickly be removed

Anybody know why the DGM at

Anybody know why the DGM at Edinburgh, Tom Hunter, has been sacked?

TO ALL DRIVERS STAY IN TOUCH

TO ALL DRIVERS STAY IN TOUCH ON HERE AS IVE JUST FOUND OUT SOME SERIOUS STUFF, ONCE I KNOW I CANT BE TOUCHED I WILL SHOW YOU JUST HOW FAR THE RABBIT HOLE GOES............ YOU WONT BE TAKING OUT 90 DROPS PLUS FOR MUCH LONGER

We used to have a forum on

We used to have a forum on the CL intranet for keeping in touch but there was too many moans and gripes by drivers and other staff so they took it down. Now we've got to put our questions and gripes to elected reps who take then to monthly meetings where they can be dismissed by regional managers. YVC my arse!

Is there not a facebook site for CL employees to get stuff off their chests?

I run a small business, and

I run a small business, and City Link is one of many courier companies that deliver to me. I can only speak from personal experience, but they have always delivered on the day their online tracking states and have always been polite and courteous when making the delivery.

At the end of the day it is all down to individuals within an organisation. Some employees have excellent communication skills and realise the importance of customer retention, whereas with others that is an alien landscape and the customers are just a nuisance giving them work to do.

To conclude, what I will say about City link is that all their vans are kept clean inside. Some of the other couriers have delivered using third parties in rusting vans with filthy load areas. I like to stay relatively clean when opening a parcel, not be covered in crud beacause some neandertal doesn't know how to use a brush, or mop.

city link arent that bad

i work for city link in gloucester as a owner driver , they are certainly getting a lot better and are certainly giving the drivers more drops to do , i am on a local route and take out between 100-130 deliveries a day at the mo , its only fair they are trying to get the most out of there employee's as they are a business and are trying to make a profit , you can only do your best at the end of the day as a driver , if ever i am struggling with collections or deliveries they will always try to get someone out to me or get collections covered , the manager in gloucester as well is ok , all the parcels that i deliver to private address's most people are amazed how quick they get there , and as for late times if you are late for to many times on more than a few occasions you now get warning's and then get the sack if you take the p155 , 95% of out times are at the address's on time now , only 2 or 3 late times a day now , damaged parcels are usually down to the way they are stacked in the cages and as for missing parcel IMO it is mainly down to agency staff and the fact they dont take on much full time staff for night time shifts , im sure there are a lot of sh1t depots out there and the way they are ran is not the best but that can only be blamed to managers and there management skills , we have a new manager in gloucester depot and he has certainly kicked the depots ass into gear and got it running better , i also never hardly get complaints of customers as well ,

MY ARSE

The cow still thinks company is ALL MY ARSE !

useless ejits

Waited in all day for the delivery of a parcel only to find a car mid afternoon. No knocking, no doorbell go. I figured I must have missed it when I was in the toilet or momentarily deaf (!?). Second day I make more of an effort to listen out and ensure I do have to travel the 30mile round trip to the depot...same again, the mystery card left on ym doormat but no attempt at knocking/ringing.

Which inept, retarded senseless moron runs this company? Utterly unacceptable.

Missing parcels

The company I work for has used City Link for some years now and in general we get a pretty good deal at a pretty good price. So when I managed to find the cycle I'd been looking for, for some time, I arranged for City Link to collect it for me and deliver it to my house. Now, the seller of the bike, wold have preferred a personal collection not really trusting couriers, but with the bike in Midlands and me in Devon, City Link seemed the best option. That was until the day after it was collected.

Now, the bike, a Genesis Day One Cross, was almostr new and was being sent to me in it's original box....with GENESIS BIKES all over it....you can see where I'm going with this. I would appear that the bike was collected, taken back to the depot and....diapppeared...

I eneded up with a pack of electrical goods which clearly - due to the senders attached delivery note - shouldn't be delivered to me but the attached City Link label - stuck on at the collection depot - said different. That was rewturned with the driver to the depot.

And my bike....well....it has disappeared and they suggest that I put a claim in for it; or a 2010 model of which the size and model in question is like rocking horse shite. Tell you what City Link, just foget the claim and find the scally from your company who piched it.

Will I EVER use City Link to collect anyrhing for me personally
NO
Will I ever recommend City Link to ANYONE
NO
When the BIG City Link contract with the company I work for is up for renewal, will it be...?

Dream on City Link....dream on !

CITYLINK is the worst ever courier i ever deal with!!!!!

dear All,

I am going to make a complain to persatuan penguna and I hope you can join in as well.

Please go to http://consumer.org.my/complaints/why-complain and submit the complain form. Really have to teach them a lesson.

Whatever Happened to Dick Mason

A man who worked for Target Express for 20 odd years and gave his all to it. He respected the men who worked for him and endeavoured to listen to them and be fair. He was a company man through and through spending far more time there than he did at home. Then City Link too over. Well where do you start. Disgruntled employees, disgruntled customers. Young men (later sacked for fraud but not before they had done their damage) brought in to manage who couldn't manage a paper bag and, who were resentful and envious of a man who had the respect of his work force and other depot managers. It was downhill from there in. He was led by a team that did not know what they were doing and would not listen to either reason or years of experience. The new team (and I use this term loosely) were determined to get the original concientious management out at whatever cost and they succeeded with Dick citing "coming to a mutual understanding" mutual my foot, he went out the door kicking and screaming. They say you should never go back and that proved so right. Different work ethics, different standards. Having raised issues on a number of occasions detremental to H&S not being addressed and fearing for the lives of his team he felt that he could not be responsible for someone's fatality so left once again. Not due to ill health (as some may have hinted at) but out of concience and a strong sense of morals. So for my part, on behalf of a man that did not deserve the treatment he received the first and second time around, I hope they reap what they sow. Long live Target Express, they don't make management like they used to.

courier and transport industry

it dont be the delivery companys fault it depends on who is delivering it and how it will get there and how many days it would take for it to reach its destination.

Shitty-Link Rotherham Branch

I was waiting from 8am untill 7pm not even a toilet break, I checked there website later it said atempted delivery the lying basterd driver had left no card but it said on the website that they had. I got 2 dogs that bark when ever somone knocks at the door, and a door bell but neither made a noise. I have sent a letter to there head office and I am going to complain to BBC Watchdog. If a lot more people did the same they will go out of business very soon, it must be part of there training to tell liar`s about deliveries. I`m going to pick it up myself at least I know it will be delivered, bloody CS is a joke 3 numbers and not once could I talk to anyone, all you get is the same stupid music should rename them from "City-link" to "Shity-Link"

From city-links website

"City Link has been successfully delivering your documents, parcels, pallets and freight throughout the world since 1969"

Its now 2011 were is my parcel?????

City Link - Truly Awful Service

I was extremely unfortunate as I both received and dispatched goods via City Link. They are without question the worst courier service currently still in business. They have absolutely no concept of what good customer service is and many of the drivers struggle to string a sentence together let alone deliver a parcel to the address which has been cunningly entered onto both the package and documentation in order to confuse them.

I have now found an alternative courier to deliver my not insignificant number of parcels and it is simply a world of difference. When dealing with City Link I had at least ten customer calls per week in which they were chasing undelivered goods. Unlike City Link I find this level of customer complaints unacceptable and despite our efforts it became apparent that I would be unable to provide the level of service our customers expected whilst still dealing with City Link.

Admittedly this problem has not gone away but the number of complaints is now so few that combined with the excellent level of service provided by the two courier services I use we are able to deal with customer complaints very quickly.

The attitude to customers shown in the above responses are unacceptable in any well run business and it is common sense that unhappy customers soon become someone else’s customers. I am stunned that City link manage to remain in business and can only assume that the level of customer service provided to large contract customers must be just sufficient to keep them on your books... for now.

I appreciate that every business can employee staff that fail to perform to expectations and many companies deal with this through training, rewards or sometimes the simple replacement of underperforming employees but City Link staff do not just come across as underperforming or disgruntled employees, they actually appear to be unhappy, uneducated and worse of all... People who lack any compassion let alone a sufficient level of emotion to show even a hint of empathy or begin to contemplate why good customer service is not just a job requirement.

Assuming there are any, I mean there must be some... Right? I apologize to the City Link staff that are actually hard working and good at their jobs.

Night Shift

Without the night shift the vans would ahve no parcels. I have worked it for three years. The warehouse is filthy, there are over 6000 parcels to sort. Christmas will make it worse. Bulk will come down the line. Managementwon't have a clue and three pairs of gloves won't stop our fingers freezing solid. We get the minimum wage, which is effectively the maximum. Freight will stack up. Flowers will be deaad before they ever get on a van. The missorts will leave drivers howling and growling and timed deliveries will go out a day or two late. The company does not beleive in having surplus caapcity. But it will be a great laugh. Casual workers will come in from all sorts of places and it will be a truly multi cultural experience. And all of this was the brain child of two London Mini Cab drivers.

I've only had one problem...

I order stuff online all the time, and loads of stuff has come via City Link. Only on one occasion has the Rochdale branch ballsed up on me. Interwebs said 'out for delivery' and though I was in all day, no sign of anyone, no card. Turned up next day.
Other than that, I've always found the drivers fine, deliveries on time etc.

And for the record: I was googling to find out about working for them as a driver, but it sounds like a nightmare so maybe I won't bother!

Don't normally post on these sites, but felt I should add a positive from a non-CityLink employee.

worst company i have ever

worst company i have ever experienced

faked delivery attempt

with the aid of my CCTV, and a photo sent to me from shitty-link, i can see that they never came anywhere near my house which is on a main road, 2 miles just off the A30. Impossible to miss and the usual collections/delivery guy knows exactly where this house is having been here many times. I'd like to know exactly where the photo was taken as being someone who knows most the front doors in the district, let alone village, that one rings no bells, and well, my address is named B**** cottage - and erm that is not a picture of a cottage either!

I happened to be in the driveway doing a cut and polish on a car at the time they claimed to have attempted delivery to the strange black and white photo'ed building i was emailed a picture of.

It is monday, they said they'll deliver it wednesday as the next earliest date, i pointed out we still had tuesday to go, and before i could finish the polite agent did actually book it in for Tues pre 12, but changed the tracking number - interesting...

Oh i must add i have used

Oh i must add i have used them many times in the past when sending parcels out, and have never had a problem with a collection, thank you Mr M***** for always making the collections, and well as for the deliveries, last consignment sent out, 2 lots to exact same address, one got there the other didn't - how? I've since changed delivery companies but had no idea this latest item was being sent with shittylink else i would have bought elsewhere.

Integrity is a must

In today's business world, no one gets by without absolute integrity, honesty and dedication for their customers. For instance, in the portable restroom rental industry, someone will just as quickly take your business if you aren't dedicated to your clients. They won't last...

City-link is such art down.

City-link is such art down. They left £700 worth of furniture I ordered for the nursery in the bushes around the corner from where I live. This is during heavy rain so you can imagine my shock and horror when I got a card saying 'parts delivered near 12' with no further information. No driver name no consignment number. Nothing. Knowing there was no flat 12, I went around looking in the neighbourhood. 8 months pregnant and very angry. Eventually saw 4 huge boxes lying in the bushes, wet and filthy due to the rain.
I hope city link closes down very soon. The driver was a complete ass for doing that and this isn't the first time I've had a bad experience.

City Link is such a let down.

Dont worry Sana City Link will be closed down sooner than you think, they lost 18.5 million pounds in the first half of 2012, now they are pushing for a management buy out by the end of 2012,if that happens give it 12 months and the bank will just call time. As for the van drivers they are just promoted to run the branches thats why the company is in such a mess, uneducated morons, mixed with high subcontractor costs. What a mess it is. LOL.

working at city link

I worked for over 22 years on night shift they made me redundant without a thought for me and my family i am now homeless because couldn't pay mortgage they don't look after their loyal employees

Do not sign up

Just a word of warning for any people considering joining city-link as an Scp driver. DO NOT DO IT!!! I was a signed up subbie with them for four years, spent £2400 on getting my van defaced by this lot. I worked at the Morley depot and hated every minute of it. They move your postcodes round on a daily basis so u can never totally learn an area, Tom Tom will have to be with u everyday. Now the rates of pay is dependant on how your face fits I got 1.54 for every successful stop, no extra for collections. So you have to do minimum 100 stops of the heaviest bulkiest parcels known to man. I know h&s states 25kg but hey not at city link. Also if you don't like to break the law it may not be for you as your paperwork will say 1200kg. Ok. But on closer inspection all the big heavy parcels that they didn't lift onto conveyor belts are classed as 0kg and every argos delivery shows up as 4kg. They deliver wardrobes and all sorts for them. 4kg my arse. The biggest problem is all the lies that management fob you off with. Been 1 of the longest serving subbies, when they switched to Scp you would of hoped you would be 1 of the first people in to pick a route....... Or no I was the last. After Christmas my area died of death struggled to get £150 a day when covering 10 part postcodes. The truth is all the good runs r gone you will just get the crap left over probably take home £60 a day. Never mind not getting holiday you have to arrange cover at your expense. Life is too short, look somewhere else. A note to ppl complaining about no card left. The scanner captures GPS positioning when carding so the office know when there telling you porkies. Happens regular. Some drivers r bone idol.

City Link Trunk Drivers.

LIES LIES LIES, all the time, dont listen to them, they just want to get you off their books just incase the recovery plan goes wrong and wont have to pay redundancy, im on about them trying to transfer our contracts via tupe to subcontractors and notice how they picked out the long serving drivers, drivers committee waste of time will not stand up for drivers, yes sir yes sir 3 bags full sir, subcontractors know what they are doing they are all a part of this, once they get you across with the tupe agreement being a short one, they will be trying all ways and means to get rid of us...
Nasty tricks City Link.
