Send Coofer Cat a Text
Submitted by coofercat on Mon, 2007-01-29 20:25In a sort of Frankenstein sort of way, I've shoved a mobile phone onto Coofer Cat. I did this once before, but it stopped working for some gnarly reason I never really got to the bottom of. This time, it's all spangly and bluetoothed and actually considerably better than back then.
Anyway, you can send Coofer Cat your thoughts by text to +44(0)7867 937282. We don't publish your number, instead we make a daft name out of it and show that instead. Oh, and we won't sell your number to anyone, so you won't get any extra dodgy calls because of us.

What the f---?
Submitted by coofercat on Wed, 2007-01-24 10:58
Who'd have thought? After all this warm weather, we've got snow, right here in sunny Brixton. My word...
It's not loads of snow of course, but someone's had a go at making a snowman out the back.

Brain Twister
Submitted by coofercat on Tue, 2007-01-23 17:24A bit of web surfing took me to Plep's Puzzles (via, unsuprisingly, Plep). This got me to thinking of a puzzle I happen to know (and the best bit is that it comes with a story!):
A Princess is 'of that age', and has two suitors. Prince Charming is her favourite, for he is tall blonde(ish) and handsome, with a promising career in IT. The Duke of Doon is the King's favourite, because despite having some flaky degree in social science, when in the presence of the King or Queen, he sucks up more than a catwalk model at a party.
One day, the King invites both suitors and the beautiful Princess, to his country residence. Whilst standing on the driveway, a sort of gravel arrangement made of black and white pebbles, he thinks of a way to solve his dilemma. He explains that he's going to put one black stone, and one white stone into a bag. He'll then ask his daughter to select a stone without looking into the bag. Which ever stone she picks will decide which suitor will marry her.
That old snake in the grass, the Duke of Doon, offers to be represented by a black stone. He goes on to offer to select the stones and prepare the bag. The King naturally agrees to his offer. However, the sharp-eyed Princess notices he puts two black stones into the bag. Oh no! That means Prince Charming cannot possibly win the challenge!
How can the Princess evade the Duke's dastardly plan?

Celebrity Big Brother
Submitted by coofercat on Mon, 2007-01-22 13:56My new found Radio 1 listening brings me to NewsBeat. The headline? Channel 4 bosses meeting to decide what to do about Celebrity Big Brother. There are apparently calls to axe the show, or otherwise do something fairly drastic. Should they have even broadcast the racism? Should they have done more to protect the housemates? Oh, the debates are endless.
We have to remember that Big Brother is all about the 'lowest common denominator'. It's not about being the best at anything, it's about being the worst. This could be why the winners stay famous for about 10 minutes - they're just not worth it.
So Jade may just have done us a favour. She's shown that celebrity or none, the lowest common denominator isn't a good place to be if you're a TV station.
BBC Radio 1
Submitted by coofercat on Mon, 2007-01-22 13:16A number of years ago, I ditched the last analogue FM radio in my flat. I did this because I wasn't listening to it much, it was crap quality and I'd bought a couple of Squeezeboxes.
The other day I was listening to BBC Radio 1 at a friends place. This (and the Live Lounge album) inspired me to get back to my youth and listen once again. A quick install of AlienBBC and mplayer got it all going. Excellent!

Roller Coaster Animation
Submitted by coofercat on Sun, 2007-01-21 11:26Knobs sent me a link to this roller coaster animation. I don't know why it exists, but it's really, really good.
Oh, and one for the Hoff file: Boff the Hoff. Not so sure about this one though...

Chav Trains
Submitted by coofercat on Sun, 2007-01-14 15:20South West Trains get a raw deal - the chav train from Guildford to London that stops everywhere is always transporting teenage chavs to and fro. Last night, two carriages were closed due to vandalism, and the one I was in had puke on one of the seats. Mingin'.
Having said that, SWT do put the crappiest trains they have on that route, which makes me wonder if that's part of the problem (or would they get smashed up and puked on just as much, even if they were nicer?).
Maybe I'm just getting old, but I don't remember such things happening, even in the baddest old days of British Rail. This presumably means kids are getting more chavvy. It makes one wonder if the usual thing of moving to the suburbs to have kids is such a good idea after all...? (a hypothetical problem in my case, of course!)

Booked! I'm off to Canada in February...
Submitted by coofercat on Fri, 2007-01-12 18:41|
I'm all booked to go to skiing in Banff, Canada for a month (starting Feb 1st). I've got my flights, accommodation and (yawn) insurance sorted. Now I'd best make sure I've got all my other tat sorted out before I go! (and do my best to get vaguely fit!) <- This is the time where I'm going ;-) |
More Carphone Warehouse Shenanigans
Submitted by coofercat on Fri, 2007-01-12 15:11I've had a few misdealings with the Carphone Warehouse before. This time it's about upgrades...
